The Mauritius School Ahorn near Coburg is a support centre for mental development including a school, partial inpatient therapy and a curative day care centre. Following the school lessons, the day care centre also offers individual support for children and young people with mental disabilities. More than 100 children and adolescents are cared for in the mixed-age day care groups. The educational offers made to the children are as diverse as the children and adolescents who attend the facility.

Current situation

We are aware of the challenging situation, which is even intensified by school closures and hygiene measures due to the Corona pandemic. Joint activities and excursions, such as travelling by public transport or a big football tournament, are not possible for the institution at the moment. In order for all children and young people to be able to experience the world with all their senses even in the current situation, the desire for more alternatives arose.

Realising our support

The group leaders told us about different play and learning materials that promote the development of the children and adolescents in a playful way and that they would like to have at the day care centre. The Rödl Employee Fund for Children’s Aid took care of the purchase. Whether logic puzzles, construction material or classic board games: the new play and learning materials promote positive togetherness, spatial-visual perception, creativity, physical coordination, linguistic ability, logic and concentration.

We are pleased that through the donation we can support the institution in its work to continue to encourage the children and young people through play and to let them learn according to their own abilities. The Rödl Employee Fund for Children’s Aid wishes all the children, young people and the entire staff of the Mauritius School lots of fun and all the best.
